The Competition Commission (Comco) has opened an investigation into a Swiss pharmaceutical company.
This may have used a patent in an illegal way to protect itself from competition.
Novartis confirmed the investigation to the AWP agency.
On September 13, 2022, the Weko carried out a house search on the premises of a pharmaceutical company, the authorities said, initially without naming the company.
The accusation: The company allegedly tried to protect its own preparation for the treatment of skin diseases against competing products. It initiated legal proceedings on the basis of one of its patents.

Novartis confirmed the investigations to the AWP news agency. However, this does not mean that misconduct has been identified. There would also be no financial impact.
The investigation should now clarify whether there is a use of so-called blocking patents, which could represent an inadmissible abuse of an allegedly dominant position according to the Cartel Act. ComCo cooperated with the European Commission on the basis of a bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the European Union in the area of competition law.
