Bayern women award champion match ball

The 16th league victory in a row would have brought the FC Bayern footballers the championship early. But the Munich team couldn’t get past a goalless draw against Leverkusen. Also because attacker Lea Schüller hits the post shortly before the end.

Bayern Munich’s footballers missed out on winning the championship early. The leaders missed their first match ball after a disappointing 0-0 draw at Bayer Leverkusen after 15 league wins in a row.

With 56 points, defending champion and DFB Cup winner VfL Wolfsburg (51) would need a mistake on Sunday for the fifth triumph in the club’s history at SV Meppen (4 p.m.) who are threatened with relegation. Otherwise the decision is adjourned for a week. On the last day of the game, Munich hosted the already relegated tail light Turbine Potsdam. Wolfsburg meets SC Freiburg in the new edition of the cup final (4:1), but has the better goal difference.

From the stands of the Ulrich Haberland Stadium, national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg saw how the favorites only got into the game after half an hour. At first, the Bundesliga fifth developed more goal danger, then a header from Lea Schüller (33rd) flew just over the crossbar.

Despite their superiority, Bayern lacked the necessary precision in the second half as well. Leverkusen defended passionately and hardly offered any gaps to the top-class Bayern offensive, just before the final whistle (90+5) Schüller failed on the post.
