Interoperability between Instagram And Threads strengthens. Meta is testing a feature allowing you to automatically share a photo published on Instagram on Threads.
Already closely linked, Instagram and Threads are getting even closer. Some users now have the ability to post a photo on both platforms at the same time.
Share your photos on Instagram and Threads faster
Asked by TechCrunch, Meta confirms that it has launched the test of such a cross-posting functionality. For now, this only works in one direction: from Instagram to Threads. There is therefore no question of automatically publishing content on Instagram from the Threads interface.
When the user chooses to enable this option, the Instagram caption of the photo will turn into text for the Threads post. Hashtags are converted to plain text, even though Threads now supports them.
In this first version, the function does not allow you to share certain specific Instagram content, such as Reels, the service’s short video format.
A function not yet available to everyone
Cross-posting is not deployed to all users and currently only concerns iOS. It is also possible that the test does not concern the European Union, which is very vigilant in the processing of cross-platform data. If Meta considers that the test is conclusive, we should however benefit from it later, since it is already possible to publish an Instagram photo directly on Facebook.
It would be interesting to know how cross-posting behaves when the privacy settings differ between the two accounts. For example, a private Instagram profile can be linked to a public Threads profile.
In its efforts to improve interoperability between its different social media, Meta launched a few months ago a function allowing the same messages to be shared on Facebook and Threads simultaneously. Again, Android and the EU were left out.
