Postnatal Depression: What this mother writes gets under your skin!

In theory, bringing a child into the world should be one of the most beautiful, magical moments in life – a unique moment that changes everything in one fell swoop and turns life upside down. And even if the actual birth was lengthy and painful: the following days and weeks are considered by many mothers to be the most wonderful time they had with their child at the beginning. What could be more exciting and fulfilling than accompanying a new baby with his first impressions of the world?

Postnatal Depression – More Than Just "A Bad Day"

Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Instead, many mothers have a completely different experience that is still far too little talked about: postnatal depression. For outsiders it is often not recognizable how profound a postnatal depression overshadows the whole life of the new mother and at best see "a bad day". But the problem is bigger than many think. "Mothers with postnatal depression experience extreme grief, anxiety, and exhaustion that make it difficult to take responsibility for themselves and others," according to the official assessment by the American National Institute of Mental Health.

"Everything is expected of her and she goes under completely"

The young mother Krysti Marie Motter was also rather irritated before the birth of her son Liam when mothers became depressed after childbirth. But when she had to experience firsthand how bad postnatal depression really felt, she understood the extent of the problem. In an emotional post on Facebook, she told her friends how bad she really was – and was soon celebrated for her courage and relentless openness on the Internet. In the video you can see with what clear words she could open the eyes of many people about how hard the first weeks with their baby can really be for many women.
