Postpone planned interventions: Dahmen demands emergency operation in all clinics

Postpone predictable interventions
Dahmen demands emergency operation in all clinics

In many hospitals, the staff is working to the limit. Due to the large number of Covid intensive care patients, operations that can be planned for other patients have to be postponed. The Green politician Dahmen wants this procedure in all clinics. There is an urgent need to create capacities.

In view of the increasing number of infections, the Green health expert Janosch Dahmen has called for plannable medical interventions to be stopped in all federal states. “In the countries where operations that can be planned are still taking place, the regular program must now be stopped in order to create capacities for patients from the regions where the system is already at the limit,” said Dahmen to the newspapers of the Funke media group. “We now have to switch to emergency operation everywhere.”

At the weekend, the German Hospital Association stated that normal operations could no longer be maintained in more than three quarters of all hospitals and that these houses would have to postpone operations that could be planned. “The situation is really increasingly dramatic and with some of the discontinued treatments also leads to physical and psychological stress for the patients concerned,” said the chairman of the board of the German Hospital Association, Gerald Gass.

It is obvious that the infection dynamics lead unchecked to the fact that the burden in the health system and the number of sick and dying people increase far too quickly, said Dahmen. He therefore called on those responsible to exhaust the legal options in the fight against the pandemic: “Where further measures are possible, they must now be implemented,” emphasized Dahmen, who is himself a doctor.

According to the report, the Green politician sees a need for further corona measures. “I do not understand why one and a half weeks after the decision of the Bundestag 2G plus does not apply nationwide for events and why no regulations on contact restrictions are issued in the most severely affected regions.”

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections reached a new high at the beginning of the week: According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) from the morning, the value increased to 452.4. According to the RKI, 29,364 new infections were recorded nationwide within 24 hours. The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Friday as 5.97 (Thursday: 5.79). The value is not reported on the weekend. It plays an essential role in assessing what is happening in the infection. If limit values 3, 6 and 9 are exceeded in the federal states, stricter measures to combat the pandemic can be imposed there.
