  • Wax or wax residue
  • Candle wick
  • Toothpick or kebab skewer
  • Mold
  • pot
  • Aluminum shell
  • Possibly sand

Prepare the casting mold

There are several different ways you can make candles. Mix some sand with a little water, so that a mass arises with which you could also build a sand castle. You fill this in a vessel, e.g. an old zinc pot, leaving space for your candle in the middle. You can also put an old bottle in beforehand and take it out again after filling it with sand. Or you provide one Cardboard tube inside. Another option is to put the candles in a nice container like one Mason jar or an old mug to pour.

Pouring candles: instructions in four steps

  1. Insert the wick: Place a toothpick or kebab skewer across the casting mold and clamp the candle wick between two of the wooden sticks so that the wick hangs in the mold. If that doesn't hold up, you can also tie the top part.
  2. Melt wax: Heat water in a saucepan. For the water bath to work, don't fill the saucepan to the top. Put the wax in an aluminum bowl, place it in the pot and let the wax melt.
  3. pour in: Now carefully pour the melted wax into the container shape. Make sure that the wick is still positioned correctly.
  4. Detach from the mold: Let the candle wax cool before you take it out. You can loosen the cardboard tube a little earlier when the candle is still warm but already firm. You either peel them off or cut them open.
