The Chinese manufacturer demonstrates its expertise in batteries with two new products. Powerful, versatile and well thought out, the DJI Power 1 000 and DJI Power 500 will interest many users in their quest for autonomy.
Can we imagine a world without batteries? Since the start of the millennium, we have gradually become accustomed to using portable devices on a daily basis, whether to communicate with our loved ones, entertain ourselves or work, making everyone a digital nomad on their own scale.
In response to this new paradigm, portable power stations are becoming the new essential products in the catalogs of many manufacturers, as they are capable of fulfilling many functions that are very popular today. We are therefore not surprised to see DJI, which has carved out a leading position in the world of drones and small audiovisual capture devices, finally embarking on this adventure.
Impressive features
The Chinese manufacturer offers us two models: the DJI Power 1000 and Power 500. With respective capacities of 1024 Wh and 512 Wh, they are also supposed to deliver maximum powers of 2200 W and 1000 W, enough to supply plenty of power. each of their two USB-C outputs with a maximum power of 140 W (for the Power 1000) and 100 W (for the Power 500). To these are added two USB-A ports and two AC outlets capable of powering or recharging numerous devices of different types.
Of course, such characteristics do not come without a weight compromise: while the Power 500 weighs 7.3 kg, the Power 1000 reaches 13 kg on the scale. In these heavy cases, we find LFP cells which should offer up to 3,000 charge cycles and a lifespan of 10 years (including a manufacturer’s warranty of 3 + 2 years). Regarding charging speed, DJI says it will take 50 minutes to go from 0 to 80%, and another 20 minutes to reach 100%.
Finally, these two power stations can also be used in UPS (uninterruptible power supply) mode, and switch to battery power via its AC outlets in almost 0.02 seconds.
Designed for the DJI ecosystem
Naturally, the Power 1000 and Power 500 are designed to work with other devices from the Chinese manufacturer. Thanks to their proprietary SDC ports, it is possible to use Power SDC ultra-fast charging. This delivers up to 230 W for the TB30 batteries of the Matrice 30 series, 200 W for the TB51 batteries of the Inspire 3, 150 W for the batteries of the Mavic 3 and 125 W for the batteries of the DJI Air 3. All this allows you to go from 10% to 95% charge in around 30 minutes, which is obviously not negligible.
However, this comes at a price, since compatible power cables (different for each range of drones) are offered from €19. As for the cigarette lighter to SDC charging cable, it costs the modest sum of… €49. This proprietary port can also be used to connect up to 3 DJI Zignes, 120 W solar panels (100 W in North America) sold separately and individually for €299.
If you are interested in the DJI Power 1000 and Power 500, be aware that their prices correspond quite well to their designations: the first is offered on the manufacturer’s website at €999, the second at €529.
