Power bank for the car: rechargeable batteries with jump start function

If the car battery dies, the car will not start. But instead of waiting for the breakdown service or another driver who could bridge the gap, you can help yourself with a power bank. Because some power banks for the car also offer a jump start. In the table below we show you some exciting models with a star assist function.

Using such a power bank is not particularly complicated. When proceeding, however, you should stick to a certain order.

How to use a power bank as a jump starter

  1. Connect the red clamp (plus) to the positive pole of the car battery
  2. Connect the black clamp (minus) to a grounded part in the car (metal, e.g. engine block)
  3. Turn on the power bank. Some models also have a Start Help button, which you should press now
  4. Start the car (caution: put the car in neutral and pull the handbrake)
  5. Turn on the power bank
  6. Remove the black clamp pliers (minus)
  7. Remove the red clamp pliers (plus)
  8. To ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged again, you should drive about 20 minutes by car

Comparison instead of test: What’s the difference?

For this comparison, a CHIP specialist editor examined test reports from other publications as well as the most popular offers (“best sellers”) and customer opinions from online retailers. Based on this we made the product selection. When selecting the top devices, we focus on models with more than four stars and a reasonably high number of reviews. We have read a selection of customer reviews and selected devices that, based on our professional assessment, meet the needs of the users. The products have not been tested in the CHIP test center.

All products that the CHIP test center had in the laboratory can be found in this list of the best. Products that have also been tested by our cooperation partners can be found in our test & purchase advice and in our consumer portal.
