In parts of the city of Biel, the power went out temporarily on Tuesday evening. The disruption in the power supply occurred around 7:50 p.m., as reported by the SDA news agency, according to several media.

According to the energy supplier Energie Service Biel/Bienne (ESB), several areas were affected, including in particular the northern part of the old town and the area near the university of applied sciences. ESB announced this on Twitter. Around 9:30 p.m., according to the ESB, the fault was largely resolved. In the area of the old town/Rosius, however, it is to be expected that the disruption will continue for a long time.
The cause of the power outage was a “major technical defect”. According to the tweet, the ESB service team is still working. The energy supplier initially did not provide any more detailed information. Individual quarters were therefore completely dark, as reported by citizens on social networks.
