Power outages: how to receive compensation after a natural disaster? : Current Woman Le MAG

After the passage of storm Ciaran, 1.2 million homes were without electricity, according to network manager Enedis. In case of “atmospheric phenomenon of exceptional magnitude“which cuts the power to”at least 100,000 consumers“, the regulations provide for a fixed compensation mechanism in the event of a long outage (deliberation of the Energy Regulatory Commission No. 2021-13 of January 21, 2021). Current wife explains the conditions for receiving this compensation.

A power outage of at least 5 consecutive hours

This compensation mechanism is triggered in installments of “5 consecutive hours of power outage within the limit of 40 tranches“, precise Enedis. That is to say a total of 8 days and 8 hours without electricity. Another condition is that this must not concern more than 20% of customers in France.

How much is the reimbursement?

It is defined on the basis of the power to which you have subscribed. Customers who have subscribed to a subscription less than or equal to 36 kVA will thus be compensated up to 2 euros excluding VAT per kVA in increments of 5 hours of outage. Above 36 kVA, the compensation increases to 3.50 euros excluding tax for subscribed power in increments of 5 hours of outage.

For example, if you have taken out a 9 kVA subscription, the compensation amounts to 18 euros excluding tax per 5 hour outage period, within the limit of 720 euros excluding tax. On the other hand, if you have a 12 kVA meter, it is 24 euros excluding tax for each tranche, with a maximum set at 960 euros excluding tax.

Compensation deducted from invoices

Enedis pays the compensation to the supplier, who the removal of the next invoice “, explains to the Figaro, Clément Peltier, crisis communications manager at Enedis. On the other hand, those who pay only once a year will receive this assistance during the regularization invoice if it is planned within 2 months or if this is not the case a dedicated invoice will be issued.

As a reminder, this compensation only concerns THE Power cuts. If the power outage has damaged your electrical appliances, you must contact your home insurance who will take the steps with Enedis.
