5th – Against the grain 3.6/5

Amazon Prime Video

Between After and Fast & Furious, here is a new teenage romance that was a hit on Prime this year. Based on the novel by Mercedes Ron, Against the Senses follows the complex relationship between Noah (Nicole Wallace) and Nick (Gabriel Guevara).

After his mother remarried, Noah, 17, was forced to leave everything to follow her and moved in with his rich stepfather and new half-brother, Nick. Far from his image as a model son, the latter is the leader of a gang which takes part in urban races and clandestine fights. Although Noah and Nick start out hating each other, they will quickly become attracted to each other – an irresistible attraction that will soon turn into a crazy passion. Despite the gulf that separates them, they still have wounds from the past and a passion for car racing in common.

With its steamy moments, its rhythmic action scenes, its twists and turns and its pop and caliente soundtrack, Against the direction is a fast-paced romance that appealed to fans of the genre – much more than After apparently…

4th – Later, I will reach the stars 3.8/5

Daniel Daza/Prime

Son of immigrant farmers, José Hernandez spent his childhood between the United States and Mexico and only began learning English at the age of 12. A brilliant student, passionate about mathematics and eager for knowledge, he can only go to school half of the year and must help his family during the harvest. With his hands in the earth, he contemplates the sky and asks himself a thousand questions about the mysteries that reside there. Despite this start in life, he would pursue a career in engineering, co-developing the first digital mammography imaging system to detect breast cancer at an early stage. And despite numerous refusals, he will also end up realizing his dream: to become an astronaut…

If this extraordinary destiny seems a little too good to be true, know that Later, I will reach the stars is nevertheless inspired by a true story. In this feature film, it is indeed the journey and training of a determined man, brilliantly played by Michael Peña (Ant-Man, Narcos: Mexico), that you will discover. An inspiring biopic, visually superb and above all rich in lessons to discover urgently.

3rd – My dear f***ing prince 3.8/5

Amazon Prime Video

It all started on social networks where the novel Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston has become a real social phenomenon. This was followed by a place on the New York Times bestseller list and a film adaptation that caused a sensation on Prime Video this year.

The premise, far from being banal, contributes to its success: a romance between the son of the President of the United States and the Prince of England. Indeed, Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez), son of the American president, has an altercation with his British royal counterpart, Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), photographed by the paparazzi. This quarrel calls into question Anglo-American diplomatic relations. The two families then organize a friendly rapprochement between the two young men. No one expects their relationship to take another turn…

Sunny, funny and sexy, this LGBT+ romance is both entertaining, modern and relevant. Indeed, My dear f***ing prince is a true film of its time which puts the use of social networks at the center of its story, in addition to tackling the subjects of homosexuality and homophobia. Fans of the genre were won over.

2nd – Air 3.9/5

Ben Affleck is back behind (and in front of) the camera with this semi-biopic dedicated to the greatest legend in American basketball history Michael Jordan – whose character only appears on screen from behind or behind. plan though.

Particularly tracing the creation of Air Jordan sneakers, the film follows Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon), Nike’s sports marketing director who, alongside Phil Knight (Ben Affleck), billionaire and co-founder of the brand, relentlessly pursued Michael Jordan in order to conclude a historic partnership with him. Air also highlights the decisive role, in this transaction, played by the star’s mother, Deloris Jordan, played here by Viola Davis, personally chosen by Michael Jordan for the occasion.

Chris Tucker and Jason Bateman complete the prestigious cast of this exhilarating, funny and downright inspiring film. Airit’s certainly a shoe story, but an epic and exciting shoe story that shouldn’t be missed.

1st – The Covenant 4.1/5

Amazon Prime Video

The Covenant marks director Guy Ritchie’s first collaboration with Jake Gyllenhaal, who returns to the war film genre 18 years after Jarhead.

During his last mission in Afghanistan, Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) teams up with interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim) to survey the region. When their unit is ambushed, Kinley and Ahmed are the only survivors. The interpreter then risks his life to transport the injured sergeant to safety. Back on American soil, Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family have not been granted asylum in the United States as promised. Determined to repay his debt, he returns to the war zone to retrieve his friend and his family…

If Guy Ritchie is mainly interested here in the dramatic aspect of war, it still stages several action sequences with breathtaking realism which create a climate of permanent danger. On the program, a drama with punchy dialogues and an effective and powerful war film carried by an excellent duo: fans of the genre obviously loved it.
