Practical mechanic’s trick: How to easily remove dents in the car with water

For the trick you will need:

  • water
  • A kettle
  • A plunger

And this is how you proceed:

First, fill the kettle or alternatively a saucepan with water and bring it to a boil. Then pour the hot water over a large area over the affected area.

The heat makes the paintwork and sheet metal supple. If the body is under tension due to the dent, the sheet metal can snap back to its original shape simply by the hot water. Incidentally, this method also works for dents in plastic parts, such as the bumpers.

If the dent cannot be removed with just water, you can also use a plunger after watering. To do this, place the suction cup in the middle of the dent and press it firmly. Then pull out the dent with a careful jerk.

The plunger should not be much larger than the dent itself. You should therefore also use smaller suction cups for minor damage. You can also ask another person to press against the sheet from the inside at the same time.
