Amazon Prime Video is one of the most popular places to go among streaming users. We’ll show you how to use a few tricks to get even more out of Prime Video.
Amazon Prime Video has existed in its current form since 2014, only the name was different back then. The streaming provider has become a real competitor to Netflix over the years. Because of the connection to Amazon, some users prefer to access Prime Video directly, be it through the many free films and series or the content that can be bought or rented with just a few clicks.
But even after this long time, there are some features of Amazon Prime Video that are hidden from some streaming users. We’ll share four key tips on how to get the most out of Prime Video and improve your streaming viewing experience.
Amazon Prime Video: Series & films that will soon disappear
Also on Amazon Prime Video, the available series and films change again and again. This is due to the licenses that the streaming provider received from the relevant distributors and that simply expire at some point if they are not renewed. Typically, Amazon will indicate below each piece of content if the expiration date is less than 30 days in the future. A nice indicator that you might not want to start a six-season show again.
However, there is also an all-encompassing one Overview of upcoming Amazon content. Just click on the link to get an overview of which series and films will soon be phased out.
Amazon’s X-Ray: X-ray all films and series
Since Amazon even has its own film and series database with IMDb, the streaming provider can offer a very special feature: X-Ray. Once you are watching content, you can hover over the player or click on it on mobile. The “X-Ray” field will appear at the top left. When unfolded, this shows all the actors involved, including their real names and role names. Now click on the actors and your IMDb page will open and you can finally clarify where you have seen this face before.
X-Ray is similarly useful as soon as a song is shown in a series or a film. The artist and the song title are also displayed here. One click takes you to the relevant Amazon page where you can buy or stream the song.
Better suggestions on Amazon Prime Video
Getting better suggestions for new content on Amazon Prime Video requires a little effort from you. First of all, you can easily add series and films to your watch list with just one click. You will find a plus symbol next to each piece of content. As a result, Amazon will gradually learn what content you are interested in and use other series and films.
However, if you have watched something that does not fall into your area of interest at all, you can iron out the faux pas again. In the Prime Video area, there is a “Settings” item at the top right of the tabs. In the subsequent menu on the far right, select “Playback history”. There you can remove or rate content and set corresponding priorities for your future Prime Video history.
Additional tip: Keep your eyes open for series and film content
Amazon Prime offers countless content on the streaming platform. The problem: there are often two or even three versions of a film or series. The series specially produced by Amazon “Hunters“, for example, is available in three variants. Here you have to pay close attention to the title. “dt./OV” brings you the synchronized or original version of content on the screen. Then there are two more variants with 4K resolution: One without additional Label behind which the German synchro hides and one with the note “OV/OmU”, which means original soundtrack with subtitles (here in German and in English selectable).
What’s special: It can happen that one of the contents is available via Prime without additional costs, while you have to pay for another. So be sure to check Amazon’s search bar beforehand to see if you can snag a bargain if you opt for the original audio track with subtitles.
