Precarious incident – gas pipe drilled into when setting up a tent in Tyrol

A gas pipe was apparently drilled into when a marquee was set up in Arzl in the Tyrolean Pitztal. The leak was only noticed when the anchor rods were removed on Monday afternoon.

Members of the rural youth/young farmers’ association Arzl im Pitztal were busy on Monday afternoon dismantling the marquee on the so-called Kapfparkplatz. After all tarpaulins and pillars had been taken down, work began at around 4.15 p.m. to pull the anchor rods out of the ground. “The approximately one meter long ground anchors were pulled out of the asphalt surface using a small excavator,” the police said. But after an anchor foot was uncovered next to the state road, it suddenly smelled of gas. A large area was cordoned off. Immediately the Kapf car park and the nearby Pitztaler Landesstraße were cordoned off over a large area and the corresponding section of the gas line was taken off the grid.Supply partially interruptedAccording to a Tigas employee, the leak is caused by small-scale damage caused by a driven-in ground anchor. The affected section is immediately dredged up and the gas line repaired. According to the investigators, there was no danger to surrounding objects. The gas supply was interrupted on Monday evening for parts of the Arzl community.
