Predator: “It’s not one of those dung that comes out on video”, the director of Prey explains the release of the film on Disney +

New opus of the “Predator” franchise, “Prey” lands directly on the Disney + platform this August 5. The director, Dan Trachtenberg, discusses this strategy.

In the era of streaming, more and more blockbuster films are released directly on the platforms. This is the case of Prey, a film by Dan Trachtenberg, which marks the great return of the Predator. Officially announced in November 2020, the project was initially to be done in secret to surprise viewers. A year later, its release was announced on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ in France.

In an interview produced for the Uproxx site, the director of 10 Cloverfield Lane comes back to this exit strategy which concerns all countries around the world. “This movie was meant to be a big movie experience and at the same time, it comes out that way.”

“You won’t be able to see it in theaters, but at least you’ll have a decent experience in your living room.explains the director, before adding: It’s not one of those craps that comes out on video, it’s ‘a real movie’.”

Predator: “phenomenal”, “bloody”, “of great violence” … Prey is already seducing the spectators!

This decision on the part of the studio is necessarily impacted by the pandemic, which has completely reshuffled the cards in Hollywood. For the American platform Hulu, the arrival of Prey in the catalog is an opportunity to propose a large-scale project.

Dan Trachtenberg continues: “20th Century Studios hasn’t released a franchise-owned movie since the pandemic. With Preythey try to convince by saying: ‘We don’t only offer low budget films on Hulu, we can also offer gigantic cinematic experiences’.”

Prey is available on Disney+ on August 5.
