- FC Zurich have signed Bo Henriksen as their new coach.
- The Dane will succeed the sacked Franco Foda and has signed a contract until the summer of 2024.
- The 47-year-old last worked at FC Midtjylland, where he was released at the end of July.
Bo Henriksen led his first training session at FCZ on Monday afternoon. In the morning, it was leaked via the Danish media that, somewhat surprisingly, he would take over the vacant post at the troubled Swiss champions. In the afternoon, the club then announced that the 47-year-old had signed a contract until the summer of 2024.
Last worked in Denmark
Henrisken was last with Danish first division club FC Midtjylland, but was released last July after just over a year. Last season he won the national cup with FC Midtjylland. He is the first Dane to head FCZ. Most recently, the former Bundesliga coaches Alexander Zorniger, Peter Stöger and Jens Keller were traded as candidates.
However, FCZ President Ancillo Canepa emphasized: “With Bo Henriksen we were able to sign our preferred candidate. Bo has skills that will help our team in the short, medium and long term.”
Unsuccessful interim coach
For the last three games, Genesio Colatrella stood on the sidelines of the ailing Swiss champions. The interim coach and actual U21 coach of the Zurich team could not get the team on track either. In the championship there were two draws against canton rivals GC and Winterthur, in the Europa League there was a 5-1 swatter against PSV Eindhoven. In the Super League, FC Zurich is still without a win after ten rounds and is in last place.
