In a month, Republican party members will have to appoint a new president for the right-wing party. Three candidates are in the race: Aurélien Pradié, Eric Ciotti and Bruno Retailleau. And the three men intend to rely on their differences to seduce the electorate.

Aurélien Pradié, Eric Ciotti and Bruno Retailleau: they are three on the starting line to have obtained the necessary sponsorships to run for the presidency of the Republicans. From now on, the three candidates will have to convince party members to vote for them on December 3 and 4.

But not surprisingly, the membership map of France could influence the course of the campaign. Two regions should concentrate more than half of the militants: the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (Paca) and Ile de France. The first region could benefit a priori, more to the southerner Éric Ciotti. Ile de France, less obvious to categorize, could benefit Bruno Retailleau. For the three candidates, the competition begins for the last month of the campaign, culminating in a televised debate at the end of November.

Aurélien Pradié cultivates his difference

A few weeks before the ballot, Eric Ciotti is still the favourite. He is aiming for a big score in the first round and is counting on a base of solid voters inherited from the LR primary last year. The Niçois is carrying out a field campaign without a bang at this stage, anxious to preserve his lead.

In contrast, Aurélien Pradié, less known to the general public, cultivates his difference by opposing, for example, the pension reform at 65 years old. Finally, Bruno Retailleau claims the break with the legacy of Nicolas Sarkozy. First, with the party apparatus. Then, the Vendéen calls for the conquest of ideas, a necessary prerequisite, according to him, for the conquest of power.
