MLess taxes and less aid: Éric Ciotti wants less social and more sovereign. The deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes remains faithful to his line, held for years. He explained, in an interview with Les Échos, wanting to abolish inheritance tax – which he calls the “death tax” –, reduce income tax, abolish VAT on fuel and energy and reduce production taxes. “Reducing taxation is a prerequisite for reviving the economy and getting the country out of the rut. Not a consequence. We need a fiscal shock,” he swears. A whole cocktail removing a few billion euros of cash inflows to the State … But the candidate for the presidency of the Republicans has the solution to compensate for this loss.

And there again, it is not in half measures. “Rather than on the sovereign state, let’s save money on the social state”, he asks. Clear ? “I propose that we have a cap on social benefits, a lower level of unemployment compensation, that the RSA be conditional on an activity and that at the same time we initiate a real policy to fight against social fraud. »

The unsuccessful candidate for the LR presidential primary wants “that the Republicans are the party of lower taxes and higher wages. The best way to restore purchasing power to the French is to lower taxes, contributions and charges to increase wages. Work must pay. “For this, it would be necessary, according to him, that” the State takes its responsibilities, which will pass by a reduction of the contributions, so that the net salary approaches the gross salary “.

Reduce the number of civil servants

Éric Ciotti also wants to save money by reducing the number of employees in the public service, a theme highlighted for years by Les Républicains. “There are 437 state agencies, we have to clean up,” he thinks. “We have an overflow of “administering” administrations, for example in health and national education. I want to attack the bureaucratic millefeuille with the Cerfa for enemy. I also regret that Mr. Macron has restarted the machine to create public jobs, ”he then tackles.

To hope to be able to put all this in place, Eric Ciotti will first have to win the presidency of his party, on December 3 and 4 next. He will then have to bring his already designated foal, Laurent Wauquiez, to the Élysée in 2027…
