Presidential 2022 A far-right activist attacks a supporter of Philippe Poutou in Besançon

The facts took place Wednesday evening in Besançon (Doubs), during a meeting of Philippe Poutou. A sympathizer of the NPA presidential candidate was assaulted by a far-right activist, reported our colleagues from The Republican East.

The supporter of Philippe Poutou received a punch on the forecourt of the room where the meeting was held. He had tried to stop a group of several people who were starting to tear down the posters of the anti-capitalist candidate. He was slightly injured in the face, specifies L’Est Républicain.

An armband with a swastika

The far-right activist was arrested shortly after in the evening in a bar in downtown Besançon. The 23-year-old, who had “more than one gram of alcohol per liter of blood” at the time of the attack, partially admitted the facts. He will be tried by the Besançon Criminal Court for “violence aggravated by drunkenness” on August 22, said Besançon prosecutor Etienne Manteaux.

An armband bearing a swastika and a telescopic baton were found by the police in the home and in the car of the alleged perpetrator, a young man training as a boilermaker who explained that he did not share the ideas of the NPA candidate.
