Presidential 2022: Binoche, Berling, Darroussin… a hundred artists call to vote in the popular Primary

Charles Berling, Juliette Binoche, Jean-Pierre Darroussin… A hundred artists believe that the Popular Primary is “the strongest proposal for bringing out a rally candidacy”

They call on left-wing parties to join the People’s Primary. In a column published on the website of the magazine Les Inrocks, 114 comedians, actors, writers, musicians, photographers and other artists denounce “the assured failure” of the left in the 2022 presidential election, with seven candidates announced. To avoid this failure, they ask the candidates to gather around the Popular Primary, a citizens’ initiative which organizes a ballot for a single candidate from the left. According to the signatories, it is “today the strongest proposal to bring out a candidacy for rallying […] to win what we have in common, the fight against climate change and inequality”.

“Not up to the challenge”

The actresses Juliette Binoche and Anna Mouglalis, the actors Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Charles Berling and Jean-Marc Barr, but also the director of the National Theater of Strasbourg, Stanislas Nordey, notably approved this text. “The competition that is looming between the candidates and the candidates of the left and ecology is not up to the challenges of the next presidential election”, they denounce. The artists also regret that culture is “the great forgotten of the debates and programs of the candidates and candidates”, less than four months before the presidential election. “We artists believe that ecology, social justice and culture are all sides of the same battle. »

Several candidates from the left like Yannick Jadot, Jean-Luc Mélenchon or Anne Hidalgo have already assured that they would refuse to participate in this popular Primary, even if their name is on the list. It will take place from January 27 to 30, by electronic vote. On Friday, 326,000 people were registered to vote.
