Presidential 2022: Jean Lassalle responds to the Constitutional Council on the cancellation of votes in his commune

Guilty of having staged his abstention during the second round of the presidential election, Jean Lassalle was sanctioned by the Constitutional Council with a cancellation of the votes cast in his town of Lourdios-Ichère (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). He expressed his incomprehension in a letter addressed to the president of the institution this Wednesday, April 27.

In response to the decision pronounced by the Constitutional Council against the voters in his city, Jean Lassalle apologized to them in a letter intended for Laurent Fabius and relayed on Twitter.

“I apologize to the office present, to all the citizens of the commune of Lourdios-Ichère, for the greatest dishonor they have had to suffer, because of me, since the commune has existed. I will do it personally with each of them, one by one,” said the man who was mayor of the town between 1977 and 2017.

Presented as “the most important act of his life” in the video posted by his son on Twitter, his abstention filmed this Sunday triggered the cancellation of the ballots cast in his town. In addition to this decision, the Constitutional Council mentioned in its decision rendered “possible criminal proceedings” against the French deputy.

Two requests submitted to the Constitutional Council

The former vice-president of the Democratic Movement submitted two requests to Laurent Fabius. “I simply ask your institution to kindly lift the sanction that you imposed on the municipality of Lourdios-Ichère, which has nothing to do with it. On the contrary, I ask you to kindly initiate or cause to be initiated without delay the criminal proceedings that you mention against me, ”explained Jean Lassalle in his writing.

He continued by summoning the Constitutional Council to carry out his threats on the criminal level. “I want to publicly answer for my act and pay the possible consequences provided for by law: prison sentence, withdrawal of my civic rights, fines… If the great institution of the Republic that you preside over does not deem it appropriate to follow up, I will appeal in your places and places to whomever it may concern for Justice to pass, ”added the candidate for the last presidential election.

During the first round of the presidential election, the head of the list of the Résistons movement won 3.13% of the vote.
