AT Less than four months into the first round of the presidential election, it’s time for candidates to raise money. Indeed, winning the Élysée is not cheap. Eric Zemmour’s meeting in Villepinte alone cost 550,000 euros. In 2017, Emmanuel Macron spent a total of 16.8 million euros. Most of the candidates therefore sent their representatives to tour the banks. The goal? To be loaned the maximum of the 8 million euros that the State reimburses to anyone who earns more than 5% in the first round. Unfortunately, most of them have found the door closed for the time being.
