Two months before the presidential election, Emmanuel Macron continues his tour of France. After Creuse and Haute-Vienne last week, he went to Pas-de-Calais and the North this Wednesday. A trip during which he donned three hats: head of state, president of the Council of the European Union and future candidate. The president had a tough exchange with Xavier Bertrand, the LR president of Hauts-de-France.

In front of 300 elected officials in Liévin, Emmanuel Macron confirmed, this Wednesday, the financial commitment of the State to continue the renewal of the mining basin. A promise that made Xavier Bertrand react. The president of the Hauts-de-France region denounced the promises of a campaign candidate.

100 million euros for urban renewal

During this one-day trip to Liévin, Lens and Tourcoing, Emmanuel Macron met with elected officials from the mining area. The Head of State then had an exchange with the President Les Républicains (LR) of the Hauts-de-France region, Xavier Bertrand. A duel in public in front of local elected officials. Emmanuel Macron came here to announce a new grant of 100 million euros for urban renewal. This announcement did not fail to make Xavier Bertrand react.

“100 million euros … We are not going to tell the story. The mining towns, the public spaces, the public buildings, it does not make the mesh. There is not enough”, declared the President of the Hauts-de-France region.

“It is time for this hypocrisy to stop”

Xavier Bertrand, now supporting Valérie Pécresse, sits down a few moments later. Emmanuel Macron, standing, microphone in hand, stares at his opponent in the front row. “Don’t make a bad argument today. It’s because you never had the government or the state that was not there. And we have been there and we will be there in the long term. “Nothing gets done without this cooperative spirit. Nothing. And I vouch for it,” he told her.

The Head of State responded to him like a campaigning candidate. Xavier Bertrand, he denounced this situation: “An electoral trip does not have to be supported by the Republic. And certainly not. It is time for this hypocrisy to stop”. At 67 days now from the first round, the only thing missing is Emmanuel Macron and it is clear that this has the gift of annoying his opponents…
