Prime Minister Jean Castex, who represented Emmanuel Macron, but also Valérie Pécresse and Anne Hidalgo, candidates for 2022, declared their support for Armenia and the Christians of the East during the annual dinner of the CCAF (Council of coordination of Armenian organizations in France). DECRYPTION

A few weeks before the first round of the presidential election, the candidates for the election are courting a strategic electorate: the Armenian community. Yesterday evening, Jean Castex, who represented Emmanuel Macron, but also Valérie Pécresse and Anne Hidalgo, contenders for the Elysée, testified to their support for Armenia and the Christians of the East during the annual dinner of the CCAF (Council of coordination Armenian organizations in France).

Valérie Pécresse applauded for a long time

Anne Hidalgo and Valérie Pécresse, two contenders for the Elysée Palace, and Prime Minister Jean Castex were seated at the same table last night, a few chairs apart. One was officially invited as regional president, the other as mayor of Paris.

Valérie Pécresse was applauded for a long time, especially for her trip to Yerevan, then to Nagorno-Karabakh at the end of December. I carry the convictions that are dear to me, particularly the defense of Eastern Christians”, she declared. “As you know, this trip earned me threats from the Azerbaijani president and I want to say it . These threats do not intimidate me.”

The Armenian community, an electoral breeding ground

Valérie Pécresse was supported in the face of these threats by Anne Hidalgo. The mayor of Paris then also took care of her image with a community which has nearly 400,000 voters in France. So, if the action of the two candidates in favor of Armenia is well before the campaign, their presence last night was necessarily noticed. Emmanuel Macron could also have been there. But the president retained in Berlin was replaced at the last moment by Prime Minister Jean Castex
