During his press conference on Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron reiterated his desire to reduce the tax burden on households. From 2025, the French will pay nearly 2 billion euros less in taxes per year. It remains to be seen who will really benefit from this reduction, while the Head of State also emphasizes the value of work.
This has been the state’s leitmotif for several years: lower taxes, particularly for the middle class. During his press conference held this Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron made a point of recalling the government’s commitment to reducing the tax burden. The Head of State thus underlined that a reduction of two billion euros in taxes will take place soon.
An announcement which nevertheless surprises no one since the president had already promised it after the pension crisis. But after a long wait and above all a lot of delay, a year has finally been brought forward: 2025. It remains to be seen what exact shape this tax gift will take, in particular with a central question: to whom will this tax cut be? exactly intended?
Better pay for the work of the French
Because for now, the definition of the middle classes that the executive wants to pamper must still be clarified. During this conference, Emmanuel Macron also initiated Act II of the labor market reform. For the president, it’s simple: work must pay more. This Act II must encourage the creation or resumption of employment. To achieve this, the Head of State wants to simplify and further encourage training, flexibility and mobility for employees who wish it.
Civil servants are not left out since a civil service reform, already in the pipeline, will see the light of day. Objective according to the Head of State: to strengthen merit-based remuneration. But after the President’s numerous announcements, it is now up to the government to provide details for their implementation.
