Because the Prestige isn’t just a great movie starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, it’s also a range of laptops.

In a rather original way, MSI took advantage of Computex to present a laptop whose heart (the processor that drives it) has not yet been officially unveiled.

An “engineering sample” processor

While Computex 2023 is in full swing in Taipei, several observers have noticed the presence of a new laptop on the MSI booth. A computer from the Prestige range and simply called Prestige 16 Studio.

The machine does not benefit from outrageous publicity on the part of its promoter, but the Internet has been taking care of it for a few hours and the discovery made by our colleagues from Notebookcheckrelayed by VideoCardz. Indeed, a quick glance at the Windows Device Manager installed on the machine intrigued quite a few visitors.

There was then no question of discovering a frank reference to a chip currently marketed by AMD or Intel. On the product sheet of the notebook, it was however a question of an Intel CPU, but the mention ” Genuine Intel(R) 0000 was the only one available on Windows.

Meteor Lake with 16 cores and 22 threads

In general, such a reference is the sign of the presence of a chip that has not yet been finalized by Intel, a sample of engineering as we say in the jargon. However, this does not mean that it is a Meteor Lake, the next generation from Intel.

To get to the bottom of it, Notebookcheck observed the total physical and logical cores, which confirmed the presence of a chip with 16 cores and 22 threads, incompatible with the current line-up of the Raptor Lake range. In fact, at Intel, only Meteor Lake has such a CPU with a chip that has 6 efficient cores, 6 efficient cores (CPU) and 2 efficient cores (SoC) for a total of 22 threads.

If the proof was not enough, MSI made a small blunder by distributing a non-final version of its press release before quickly replacing it. There was a question of corrections in relation to the mentions ” Core i7 ” And ” 13e generation “. Remember that with Meteor Lake, Intel will change its nomenclature.
