To prevent sunburn, there are a few practical tips. Here’s how to protect yourself from the sun the easiest way!

Preventing sunburn: is it really that important?

Oh, such a small sunburn is quickly gone and only half as bad? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! Every sunburn increases the risk of skin cancer. And even if it doesn’t get that bad and there is no skin cancer, sunburn can have unsightly consequences: years of UV radiation causes the skin to age faster, causing wrinkles and age spots to appear. Therefore, we should always prevent sunburn and pay attention to protection from the sun.

Sun protection: how can I prevent sunburn?

If we want to protect ourselves properly from the sun, we should consider a few things before heading to the outdoor pool or the beach. We better clarify these questions in advance:

  • What skin type am I (Type I, II, III or IV)?
  • What sun protection factor do I need for sunscreen?

You can find out both in the article sun protection factor!

The general rule: The lighter the skin, the faster it burns – this means that if you have fair skin you should only spend a very short time in the sun without sun protection if you want to prevent sunburn. Another factor to consider is the so-called UV Index. The higher this is, the more dangerous the UV radiation is and the more we need protection from it.

Tips to prevent sunburn

In addition to sunscreen with the right sun protection factor The following tips will also help you avoid getting sunburned and to keep the solar radiation low:

  • Wear long, loose clothing
  • Don’t go without a sun hat – preferably one that protects the sensitive neck.
  • Do you want to tan faster? This also works in the shade – and is healthier for light skin types in particular.
  • It is better to avoid the midday sun between 12 and 3 p.m.
  • Drink enough – at least two liters of water a day, three is better.
  • Refresh sunscreen: We should reapply sunscreen every two hours at the latest, after swimming as soon as we are dry.
  • To give your skin a break, it makes sense to alternate between sunbathing and lying in the shade.
  • Pay attention to medicines – some medicines, e.g. B. against diabetes, can increase sensitivity to light.
  • Use sunglasses to also protect your eyes from UV radiation
