It is during the Game Awards 2022 that we have learned of the arrival of a brand new production signed Platinum games, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. As its name suggests, the title is based on the license Bayonetta and immerses us in a universe very different from what we know. Here, the image is fixed, more colorful, more chewable… We were able to get our hands on this spin off particular, it is time to tell you about it briefly.
A seductive adventure.
The visual part is one of the points that upsets the fans a lot. No, we’re not going back to a modern, electric 3D world, but we’re dragging our feet in very colorful places, with a rendering pushing towards cell shadingmaking us think a lot about Okami. The developers want to transport us to a “fairy tale” kingdom, and it must be said that the result is not so bad. Some environments move in a quirky way, they undulate like paper… It’s like taking control of a character straight out of a comic book. It’s eccentric it amuses us the peepers with ease. We mainly played it in mode Portablevse Bayonetta Origins is thin, neat and flowing. You will understand, for the moment, we are totally bewitched by this famous little witch.
The handling is rather simple. We follow a corridor to reach our goal. From time to time, we arrive in areas that are a little larger and freer to either solve a puzzle or discover one with a creature. cereza is an apprentice and not very good with magic. Pulling the trigger ZL, we can target something specific to cast a spell; in short, it’s more tactical than explosive with our dear heroine. Of course, powerful creatures, which our little one cannot handle, are prowling around. This is where our companion, Petenters the scene. Her gameplay is confusing because its movements are made with the joystick rightand its attacks with the key ZR.
The player then controls, not one, but two protagonists at once ! To sum it up more simply, the Joy-Con left allows to manage cerezarepresenting calm and gentleness, the Joy-Con right, Petembodying strength and bestiality. It’s very disconcerting and confusing to play with two characters at the same time, it takes time to get used to it. Funny thing, our comrade has the possibility of reaching more perilous places than our young lady. We must therefore have our eyes everywhere so as not to perish stupidly in this seductive adventure.
Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a truly original production that manages to keep us on our toes, despite its linearity. Propose the childhood of Bayonneta in the form of a tale is a genius idea that easily intoxicates us. And you will have understood, the grip is strange, slightly captivating, but may not please everyone. The game leans more towards something witty and ingenious, rather than a beat ’em up bloodthirsty and satirical. For once, we are curious to see the rest…
