Despite the corona pandemic, the series replenishment has not yet been demolished. How does it look in 2021? Some highlights have already been announced.

The corona pandemic caused filming stops around the world in 2020. So far, series fans have not felt too much of it, because supplies were still provided on TV and streaming services. There could be some delays in 2021, concrete start dates are mostly still in short supply. Series fans are looking forward to these highlights.

The first Marvel series comes out in January

Marvel heralds the year 2021 with the first new series: "WandaVision" celebrates its premiere on January 15, 2021 exclusively on Disney +. The series combines the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen, 31) and Vision (Paul Bettany, 49) – two superpowered creatures who lead idyllic suburban lives – suspect they don't everything is as it seems. The other Marvel series "Loki" with Tom Hiddleston (39) and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" with Anthony Mackie (42) and Sebastian Stan (38) will also appear on Disney + in 2021 – "Loki" should start in the spring , "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" fixed on March 19th.

Even more new series feed

There will also be new TV feed outside of the Marvel Universe for series fans in 2021. Two very promising new releases start on February 19. For example the six-part sci-fi adventure "Tribes of Europa", for which the producers of the German Netflix series "Dark" are responsible. "Tribes of Europa" is also a Netflix original and will be set in a post-apocalyptic Europe in 2074.

Those who prefer to deal with the here and now, on the other hand, can look forward to eight episodes of the modern interpretation of the international bestseller "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo", which tells the fate of Christiane F. The series adaptation is produced by Amazon Studios, so Amazon Prime customers can access the series from February 19.

Waiting for "Stranger Things" and "The Witcher"

More cast members have already been announced for the fourth season of the Netflix series "Stranger Things". Among them is the German actor Tom Wlaschiha (47), who was also involved in "Game of Thrones". In "Stranger Things" he plays the Russian prison guard Dmitri – but can he be trusted? There has not yet been an official start date, because filming had to be interrupted due to the Corona crisis. A release date of 2021 seems likely, possibly in summer or autumn.

The filming of the second season of the Netflix series "The Witcher" with Henry Cavill (37, "Justice League") in the lead role as Geralt von Rivia also had to be interrupted due to the corona. The new episodes should appear on the streaming service in 2021 – possibly like the first season of 2019 in December. But nothing is fixed so far.

Replenishment of popular series

The fifth season of the popular mystery series "Riverdale" is due to start on January 19, 2021 in the USA, and the next day the episodes usually come to Germany via Netflix.

The 17th season of the popular doctor series "Grey's Anatomy" has already started in the USA and is causing a stir not only with the highly topical Corona plot. Well-known faces return. In Germany, the episodes appear with a little delay – but fans should be able to look forward to broadcasting in 2021.

The fourth season "jerks." Christian Ulmen (45) and Fahri Yardim (40) will also make it to the fans in 2021. At Christmas 2020 there was already a double episode. The complete fourth season will be broadcast in summer 2021. After the premiere on Joyn, ProSieben will present the new episodes on free TV.

Season four of "Babylon Berlin" still in 2021?

The German hit series "Babylon Berlin" has been extended by a fourth season. Filming is scheduled to begin in Berlin in spring 2021. The new episodes are based on the novel "Goldstein" by Volker Kutscher (57). The main roles include Volker Bruch (40) as Gereon Rath and Liv Lisa Fries (30) as Charlotte Ritter. A targeted release date has not yet been announced. However, 2021 seems rather unlikely due to the complex production.

It is also not yet certain whether the fifth and final season of the Spanish Netflix hit "House of Money" will make it to the streaming service in 2021. Production started on August 3, 2020, which makes a release realistic at the end of 2021 or early 2022 at the earliest. Even later, at the end of November 2020, filming of the third season of "Das Boot" began in Prague. In view of the extensive post-production of the Sky Original, a start date of 2022 can also be assumed here.
