The investigation into the murder of Dr. Kai Wülker lead to a cold case: The intact DNA of Jessica Sonntag, who has been missing for more than 15 years, is discovered at the crime scene. Inspectors Katrin König (Anneke Kim Sarnau) and Melly Böwe (Lina Beckmann) confront Jessica’s family with this upsetting news, which is received differently by the family members. Evelyn Sonntag (Judith Engel), a deeply sad woman, always believed that her daughter was still alive. The father, Robert Sonntag (Holger Daemgen), hoped above all that his daughter met a quick death. The news shocks him, as the hope and fear begins all over again.

Jess (Brittany Snow) is left by her boyfriend Shawn (Alex Moffat) just before Christmas. Jess agrees and meets Shawn’s attractive cousin (Justin Long), to whom she is immediately attracted. The only disturbing factor is Shawn, who wasn’t supposed to be there but suddenly shows up.

Forensic biologist Inga Ehrenberg (Anne Ratte-Polle) is so absorbed in her work at the Forensic Medicine Institute that she doesn’t notice her loneliness after separating from her husband. Only when her father (Jörg Gudzuhn) claims that she has a half-sister (Olga von Luckwald) and a falconer (Dennis Pörtner) asks her to take in a young falcon does she end up in a whirlpool of long-repressed, painful emotions. She begins to tame the hawk, convinced that the bird will never leave her. At the same time, she has to deal with the discovery of a dead baby and two other cases whose identities are unclear.
