While jogging in the morning, Sonja Schwarz (Chiara Schoras) finds the dead body of a woman in an irrigation canal: It is Therese Pfister (Hanna Binder), who belongs to a fruit-growing dynasty. It seemed impossible from the start that she could have drowned in the shallow water of a Waal, as the natural canals used by the fruit growers are called. The “Waaler” Urban Mazur (Saro Emirze) is the first suspect because he discovered the dead woman in front of the commissioner and ran away.

Osteoporosis? Blacksmith Lorenz Kofler (Johann Schuler) finds it difficult to get over Martin Gruber’s (Hans Sigl) diagnosis. His son (Tristan Seith) doesn’t want to know anything about his father’s fate, mainly because of his new girlfriend. Six months after the death of his wife, Kofler is happy again with Hanne (Angela Roy), a bohemian from Munich. Daniel Kofler has not yet come to terms with the sudden death of his mother. Lorenz’s broken arm after a fall turns the three of them’s lives upside down.

The hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the dwarf troop led by leader Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) have survived the first dangers on the way to Mount Erebor, the home of the dwarves. But before they meet the resurrected dragon Smaug who occupies their homeland, they must first escape their horrific pursuers, the soldiers of the orc king Azog (Manu Bennett).

England, three years after the end of the Second World War. German prisoner of war Bert Trautmann (David Kross) gets an unexpected chance to escape his dreary everyday life in the Lancashire camp. The football coach Jack Friar (John Henshaw), who comes and goes in and out of the camp as a businessman, noticed Trautmann’s goalkeeping talent at a game among the prisoners. Friar even believes that the self-confident giant can save his underclass club St. Helens from imminent relegation.
