This time it’s time to feast and lift. Former Olympic weightlifting champion Matthias Steiner and his wife and co-founder Inge are guests. 8:15 p.m., Das Erste, How extreme will the weather be, Sven Plöger?, documentary

2023 was the warmest year in human history to date. One reason for this is suspected to be in the eastern Pacific. This is where the El Niño weather phenomenon originates: a warm water anomaly that disrupts global weather systems through long-distance effects that are still mysterious. The effects could also be felt in Germany in the future. In Panama City, qualified meteorologist Sven Plöger boards the German research yacht “Eugen Seibold”. On a route between Panama and the Galapagos, a team from the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry is collecting new data that will help understand El Niño.

8:15 p.m., kabel eins, Godzilla, monster action

Atomic bomb testing caused a giant lizard to mutate on islands in the Pacific Ocean. After an attack on a Japanese fishing boat and the discovery of massive footprints in Panama, the US military requests the assistance of biologist Dr. Nick Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick). Shortly afterwards, Godzilla, the monster, appears on the east coast of the USA, where he leaves a path of destruction in his wake. Nick finds out that the giant reptile is pregnant and warns the military. In the meantime, the lizard nests underground in Manhattan and lays hundreds of eggs.

10:15 p.m., ZDF, Notre Dame in Flames, disaster film

As one of the most important landmarks in Paris, Notre-Dame Cathedral attracts countless people from all over the world. When the restoration of the roof structure was in full swing in spring 2019, a fire suddenly broke out. It quickly becomes clear that the staff is inadequately trained for such a disaster and the building’s safety precautions are outdated. Valuable time is wasted because information chains don’t work and misunderstandings cause delays.
