Prey on Disney+: the actress didn’t know she was going to play in a Predator movie!


‘Prey’ heroine, actress Amber Midthunder reveals she auditioned for the film unaware it was a new installment in the ‘Predator’ franchise.

Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey was designed in the greatest secrecy. Originally, part of the promotion was even supposed to hide the existence of the Predator until the second official trailer. Even its main actress, Amber Midthunder, who plays Naru on screen, did not know the nature of the project during her auditions.

In an interview given to the magazine Empirethe young woman looks back on this blind process: “I only knew it was a movie about a Comanche woman who wanted to be a hunter. I only had two scenes to play: one with Naru’s mother, played today by Michelle Trush, and another with her brother, played by Dakota Beavers, by the fire. These two scenes are still in the film.”

After these auditions, in February 2020, the production of the film stops dead because of the pandemic. Amber Midthunder no more news. When the machine resumes, the team approaches the actress again for a final audition. It is at this moment that one of the members of the team announces to him that it is about a film Predator.

I was like, ‘From what? Oh my God. How will this work? What will it look like?’recalls Amber Midthunder. I asked myself all possible questions, then I read the script and I understood.” The actress says she first saw the Predator costume by accident during a test session in the woods.

I was mostly impressed with the artwork and detail of the suit, his head, everything. (…) It was very cool because I was not going to play facing a tennis ball fixed on a stick, I was facing a real Predator, with his teeth, his eyes and his skin color. They even covered him with a slimy substance so that it was disgusting when he touched me.”
