Prices are stagnating – higher demand for used small cars

The online platform AutoScout24 reports significantly higher demand and lower supply of small cars. From August to September this year there was an increase of 26 percent in demand and a decrease of 7 percent in supply. The market for luxury vehicles developed in the opposite direction: demand fell by 18 percent and supply increased by one percent. The increase in SUVs, which are particularly popular as new cars, was 7 percent.

The average price for a used SUV was 36,351 euros, for small cars it was 15,188 euros, and for the upper class it was 63,699 euros. The average price of a used car on the online platform was 28,197 euros in September, only 1.27 percent higher than September of the previous year. However, the price rally on the used car market is over. After prices rose sharply in April 2022, it took until November of the previous year for stagnation to occur, which continues to this day. Older cars popularNikolaus Menches, Country Manager of AutoScout24, notices not only a trend towards small cars, but also towards older ones Used. From August to September of this year, the market for one-year-old cars fell by almost nine percent, while there was an increase of almost 12 percent for vehicles between 10 and 20 years old. Still a niche, but still There is a market for used electric cars. One issue here is the lifespan of the batteries, with studies showing that even after driving 200,000 kilometers, the storage does not lose any significant amount of performance. However, buyers would need security, for example through a battery certificate that precisely states the “state of health” – for example what percentage of the original storage capacity is still available and how often fast charging was carried out. One provider of battery tests is Aviloo, a company founded in 2017 in Wiener Neudorf. Electric cars are also more in demand. It can be observed that the sale of used electric cars depends very much on the model. The image and car tests played an important role here – and that the vehicle has already proven that it works in everyday use. An example of a car in high demand in the E segment is the Renault Zoe. Menches calculated in an interview with the APA: “In Austria, the supply of used electric cars has increased by more than one hundred percent since September 2020. Since then, the number of clicks has increased by 93 percent, while the number of clicks for diesel and gasoline has fallen by 34 percent.”
