The Video Doorbell G4 is the first doorbell from Aqara and one of the few to support Apple’s ecosystem. Google and Amazon are not forgotten either and this model does not hesitate to multiply the features to seduce buyers.
Strong points
Easy installation.
Chime provided.
Beautiful image quality during the day.
Satisfactory audio performance.
Free storage on microSD card or cloud.
HomeKit, Google Assistant and Alexa compatible.
Weak points
Plastic design.
Comes with disposable batteries rather than a rechargeable battery.
Poorly translated application.
Lack of clarity around cloud integration.
Distorted image with infrared vision.
Face recognition ineffective at night.
The Aqara Video Doorbell G4 is an interesting little doorbell, especially for HomeKit users since compatible models are rare. Easy to install and comes with a small chime for more traditional use, it also offers good video quality for remote answering, as well as advanced detection functions. However, face recognition is not very effective at night and Aqara still has some work to do on its app.
NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product in the last month, with safety rules to exclude prices from stores whose VAT policy is unclear (so-called “grey” stores, typically in the case of imports from China).
As an alternative
Despite its affordable price, the Video Doorbell Wired offers very satisfactory audio and video performance, as well as motion detection that is quite effective for a doorbell. It’s a shame that some of its functions require you to subscribe to the paid Ring Protect subscription in the absence of a microSD port. The Video Doorbell Wired also naturally does without a battery and we would have liked to see it accompanied by a chime like the Powergiant Wireless Video Doorbell, which therefore remains our reference in this segment.
