Prime Video: how to activate audio description on films and series on the platform!

AlloCiné explains how to use the audio description option on films and series offered by the Prime Video platform!

Prime Video

One of the biggest challenges facing streaming platforms is inclusion. Among all the subjects concerned, audio description is at the top of the most essential options to ensure visually impaired or blind people have access to the catalog of these services.

Audio description consists of describing the action taking place on the screen. This option is not automatic, and its availability varies depending on each content, its original version and the country from which the program originates.

Prime Video is one of the platforms offering this option. Unfortunately not all of the programs offered by the platform offer audio description, but here is how to find out which program is affected by this service.

Prime Video

First of all, you must go to your Prime Video account, enter your login email and your password to access the home screen. It is possible via the search tab to display programs offering audio description, but the results page only offers a short list of the content concerned.

To find out if a film or series offers audio description, simply click on the program in question. A logo AD))) is then visible under the synopsis of the contents which provide this option (see above). To activate it, simply start playing the program, then access the language settings (at the top of the screen) and choose “French [audiodescription]”.

However, it should be noted that a large number of programs displaying the Audiodescription logo only offer this option in a foreign language (most often in English). This complicates the work of searching for audio-described content by the platform. We can therefore only hope that Prime Video improves this aspect of the service over the coming months!
