Prime Video is pulling out all the stops with its next already cult series!

Prime Video seeks to titillate science fiction fans and the platform is pulling out all the stops! There are many old licenses reused for new series or films, but this one is legendary and risks causing a lot of noise, especially given the casting.

Lately, old licenses are popular and everything is coming back to the forefront, whether in series, films or video games. On the one hand we have Alien who has been preparing for his show for a while. Recently, Indiana Jones made his comeback in theaters. Finally, Terminator is preparing to return soon as a video game with upcoming announcements from Nacon. But here what interests us is the return of this science fiction monument which we will soon be able to find in series form on Prime Video. And if it’s up to par with the other two films, it will be grandiose. The interesting cast is already heading in this direction.

A director of a very good series for this sci-fi classic

Indeed, Blade Runner will be adapted into a show on Prime Video. The series is called Blade Runner 2099 and it will be directed by Jonathan van Tulleken according to what the media Deadline reports. The filmmaker is best known for his work on Misfits, a series which was very well received, even rated 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The man will also give of himself for the first two episodes of Shōgun which will appear on Disney+ on February 27. A good way to get a taste of his talent.

Initially, it was to be Jeremy Podeswa (Game of Thrones) at the helm, but scheduling problems due to actors’ and writers’ strikes pushed Prime Video to choose someone else. As a result, filming was postponed. It was to begin in Belfast last summer and will instead begin next spring in Prague, in April to be precise.

What do we know about Blade Runner 2099?

As its title suggests, Blade Runner 2099 takes place after Blade Runner 2049 by Denis Villeneuve (Dune) which itself followed Blade Runner by Ridley Scott (Alien). The series should also be inspired by the universe of Philip K. Dick’s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”, the work that Ridley Scott adapted for the first Blade Runner. Moreover, Ridley Scott will still remain a producer on the Prime Video series. As a result, some are speculating that Jodie Comer could be part of the cast as an actress. Indeed, the two have already worked together on The Last Duel and she caused a sensation. We will surely have more information when filming begins.
