Prime Video is recruiting a new star for its event series, it promises

While waiting for an official announcement or a first preview, the good news is piling up for Prime Video’s next and closely watched event series.

In production since February 2022 for Prime Video, the Blade Runner 2099 series is long overdue. Fans of the license are watching it carefully, since it will be a sequel to the eponymous films released in 1982 and 2017. For now, we only know part of the cast, with the recent addition of ‘a star.

Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 expands its cast

Last month, we learned that Prime Video had chosen the very talented Michelle Yeoh as the lead actress for Blade Runner 2099. As a reminder, she is the winner of the Academy Award for best actress for her dazzling performance in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. This month of June, we learn that another famous actress is joining the cast: Hunter Schafer, known in particular for her roles in the excellent series Euphoria or The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

The role she will play in Prime Video’s next event series is not yet known. This is unfortunately the case for many things concerning Blade Runner 2099. We know in any case that it will be headed by Silka Luisa (Shining Girls, Halo). Ridley Scott, director of the original film, will serve as executive producer, as will Michael Green, co-writer of Blade Runner 2049.

A series a priori well surrounded, but which is desired

Prime Video’s next flagship series therefore seems well supported. But we will have to be patient before seeing what Blade Runner 2099 will bring to the screen. As such, filming should begin shortly and will take place in Spain and Prague. The latest news is that everything should be completed by December. So probably see you in 2025 to at least get a first glimpse of the new live-action production in the Blade Runner universe. In the meantime, an animated series called Black Lotus is available on Crunchyroll.
