This week, the three major streaming providers Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ “only” have 32 new releases to report, the really big films and series are not included either. One possible reason for the reluctance is the Winter Olympics.
Olympia is and remains an event
In the USA and here too, the Winter Olympics are still a huge TV event, despite the controversial venue and country of Beijing and China. This means that people are increasingly sitting in front of the television to experience all kinds of winter sports. US broadcaster NBC has been paying a lot of money for the rights for many years and has been firing all marketing pipes to advertise the broadcasts – with success.

This means that the streaming providers have to take a second seat at this time and are therefore also holding back with prominent restarts. And so you look in vain for the really big new start, if you don’t care about winter sports, you should study your catch-up list accordingly.
At least fans of the animated comedy Disenchantment will get their money’s worth on Netflix, with the fourth part of Matt Groening’s crazy fantasy series starting here this week. There is new German material with the horror film The Privilege – The Chosen Ones. Bigbug, on the other hand, should be of particular interest to science fiction fans, none other than Jean-Pierre Jeunet is responsible for this strip, he is known for The Fabulous World of Amélie and Alien – The Rebirth.
Amazon Prime has also shifted down a gear, and the mail order giant now has the comedy Bad Neighbors and the animation fun Trolls on offer. Soccer fans should mark Friday and the soccer documentary Rooney in red. Disney is also largely on hiatus, but there is one big highlight, namely the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett.
