Prime Video: one of the greatest sci-fi films will have a series sequel

Five years after the release of “Blade Runner 2049”, the sequel series is coming to fruition for the Prime Video platform. Director Ridley Scott will serve as producer.

Forty years after the release of Ridley Scott’s film, the Blade Runner universe continues to inspire the big and small screen. The Prime Video platform announces the acquisition of Blade Runner 2099, a major new project that will follow the feature film by Denis Villeneuve released in 2017.

Ridley Scott will not be back behind the camera, but will produce the program with his company Scott Free Productionns, while Silka Luisa – screenwriter of the Shining Girls series with Elisabeth Moss – will write the episodes.

As its title suggests, this new chapter will be set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. In his press release, the co-president of Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders, explains that this sequel will remain faithful to “the intelligence, themes and wit of previous films.”

In 40 years, Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner has established itself as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time. The classic previously spawned a series – this time animated – titled Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which launched on Adult Swim in November 2021. The action takes place 13 years after the events of the original.

Blade Runner 2099, coming soon to Prime Video.
