Prime Video outperforms Netflix by adding viewing with friends on more devices

Amazon Prime Video continues its efforts to stand out from the competition. Indeed, the video platform has just announced various improvements for the Watch Party, a feature that allows you to watch content with friends simultaneously. A service still absent from Netflix elsewhere.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, several streaming services decided to allow users to get closer (virtually speaking) despite the introduction of containment measures. Unable to meet on Friday evening on the same sofa to watch the latest series of the moment with friends, Disney +, HBO Max or even Amazon Prime Video have equipped themselves with a feature called Watch Party.

The principle is simple: via Watch Party, users can invite their friends (provided they are subscribed to the same service) to watch a series or a film together. A chat is integrated into the service, to discuss and exchange live. As of this writing, Netflix still does not natively offer similar features. You have to go through a Google Chrome extension called Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party) to take advantage of it.

Amazon Prime Video’s Watch Party feature expands its compatibility

However, we have just learned that the Watch Party function of Amazon Prime Video is now accessible on a greater number of media. Previously, this feature was only available on FireTV devices, on the web version, and through the Amazon Prime Video mobile app. From this Tuesday, July 5, 2022, users can also launch a series with friends on many Smart TVson streaming devices like Roku keysor via the app available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5 consoles.

Prime Video Watch Party gives customers an immersive experience to share with friends, family, and other Prime Video users. A host kicks off the party by sharing their link, allowing up to 100 people to join the party and chat throughout the movie broadcast. Watch Party brings people together in the comfort of their own living room,” assures the American company in its official press release. Previously reserved for the American market, the Watch Parties can be launched in France recently.
