In 2014, HBO hit hard with the first season of True Detective. Today, you only have a few days left to (re)discover it on Prime Video before it leaves the catalog.
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the same series? We had to wait until 2014 to see his two best friends on screen. That year, HBO broadcast the first episodes of True Detective, created by writer Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre).
The plot opens as the two main characters, Martin Hart and Rust Cohle, are questioned by the authorities and reminisce about their most famous investigation. For these ex-partners of the Louisiana Criminal Investigation Division, it all started 17 years earlier…
In 1995, Dora Lange, a prostitute, was discovered horribly murdered; the staging of the corpse suggests that a serial killer with occult rituals is rampant in Louisiana. From then on, the hunt for the assassin becomes a real obsession for Martin and Rust, at the risk of destroying their private lives.
One of the best detective series of recent years
The reviews are laudatory: whether it’s the press or the spectators, who gave it an excellent rating of 4.7 out of 5, they all highlight the quality of the game, the polished production and the quality of the writing. Season 1 of True Detective, which was filmed entirely in southern Louisiana, plunges us into a dark, uncomfortable, sticky (even sweaty!) and anxiety-provoking universe.

True Detective is a contemplative series, which can be listened to as much as it is watched. If you don’t like long tirades and non-linear narrative patterns (the action takes place in several eras and interweaves), then this is not for you. If you still want to see or rewatch this detective thriller, know that season 1 will leave the Prime Video catalog on June 3.
Note that this is an anthology and that each season offers a different cast and story. As a result, season 1, which is made up of 8 episodes of 1 hour each, has its own plot.
