Just in time for the turn of the year, Prince Albert delighted the Monegasques again with his annual speech. Above all, however, his children Jacques and Gabriella delighted with a premiere.

The New Year’s speech by Prince Albert, 64, has a long tradition. Every year on December 31st, the Monegasse addresses a few words to the people. As usual, his wife Princess Charlène, 44, joined at the end of his speech to wish the Monegasques a Happy New Year. And she had two sweet surprises in tow.

Prince Albert is supported by his wife and children

At the end of the monarch’s New Year’s speech, his two children were seen for the first time. Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, both 8, lined up with their parents in front of the glittering, green and gold decorated Christmas tree in the Guard Hall of the Prince’s Palace to say goodbye to the old year with a greeting. The family beamed with the Christmas tree: the head of the family in a dark blue suit, Charlène in a glittering silver dress, little Jacques also in a dark suit and his sister in a cute tweed suit consisting of jacket and skirt.

“My family joins me in bringing you our warmest wishes for 2023,” Albert concluded, before all four said in unison, “Bonne nouvelle année! Happy new year! Bon Anu Noevu!” A New Year’s greeting in French, English and Monegasque, the three languages of the principality, from the entire family – that has never happened before.

Jacques and Gabriella have a close bond

How close the connection between the two twins is is clearly visible in the final shot. The siblings hold hands during their small TV appearance. “They are two children who have their own language and understand each other. They love and protect each other and are very benevolent to one another,” Charlene enthused about her offspring in an interview with “Monaco-Matin” in December. “It’s quite a unique bond, I have to say, and I recognize that specialness that twins share.”

They are still children, but “they are beginning to understand their roles,” explained the 44-year-old. Jacques and Gabriella celebrate another milestone with their first appearance in their father’s New Year’s speech.
