Now the media event is returning to the screens again: Netflix is releasing the film “Scoop – A Royal Interview”, which focuses on the background to the BBC interview.
For royal expert Victoria Murphy, however, this is a bad time to publish this documentary fiction. The film follows the news that the figureheads of the British monarchy, Duchess Kate and King Charles, are suffering from cancer. But Murphy also knows: “There is no good time to remind people of this disastrous TV interview.”
According to Murphy, the 2019 BBC interview was the death knell for Prince Andrew’s career as a senior royal: “The interview was a complete disaster – one of the worst moments for the British monarchy. The fact that it was recorded at Buckingham Palace and what he said made very bad headlines around the world. Prince Andrew has done himself in.”
