Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla: Berlin visit starts with a reception at Bellevue Palace

Royal visit to Berlin: Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla were received by Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace.

On the evening of his birthday (November 14th), Prince Charles (72) and Duchess Camilla (73) landed at the new capital city airport BER. The British heir to the throne will give the central commemorative speech in the Bundestag on Memorial Day (November 15). This year's memorial day is dedicated to German-British friendship and, 75 years after the Second World War, stands for reconciliation and the much more far-reaching common history of both countries. The royal couple who wore masks, was received by the British Ambassador to Germany, Jill Gallard (52), and an honor guard from the German Armed Forces.

On Sunday, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (64) and his wife Elke Büdenbender (58) received the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at Bellevue Castle. Steinmeier had invited the royals to Germany. At Bellevue Palace, the guests signed the Golden Book, as a video on Twitter shows.

A wreath and a bouquet of flowers in memory of the victims of war and tyranny

Afterwards, Charles and Camilla, together with Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender and Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble (78) and his wife Ingeborg (77), commemorated the victims of war and tyranny in the Neue Wache. The Prince of Wales laid a wreath, the Duchess of Cornwall a bouquet of flowers, as pictures show.

Prince Charles has already visited Germany over 30 times. He and Camilla were last in Berlin last year. But this visit is a very special one: it is the first time that a member of the Royal Family takes part in the central commemorative event and is considered a sign of reconciliation.
