Prince Charles and Lady Diana: Their marriage is said to have been "hell" from the start

Lady Di is said to have hated the marriage to Prince Charles from the start. And she wanted Prince William to follow the Queen directly.

The marriage of Prince Charles (71) and the late Lady Diana (1961-1997), the mother of Prince William (38) and Prince Harry (36), is said to have been downright hellish for them from the start. This goes from the new documentary "Diana: The Truth Behind the Interview" of the British television station Channel 4, from the "Mail Online" quoted.

Already around three months before her legendary interview with journalist Martin Bashir (57) for the BBC One's "Panorama" series, which was recorded in November 1995 and, according to the broadcaster, was seen by 22.8 million viewers when it was first broadcast, Diana contacted the journalist Max Hastings (74), who has only now made his conversation with her public.

"The marriage was hell from the start"

In the first few minutes of their conversation it was immediately clear "how much she hated Charles". When asked if there were ever happy times in their marriage, Diana replied: "No, the marriage was hell from the start." Hastings was astonished by Diana's "openness and directness".

The only thing that should have interested Lady Di at this point was that her son William ascended the throne. "I don't think Charles can do it," she said and wanted him to give Prince William priority. He is currently behind Charles in second place in the British line of succession. Hastings decided at the time not to publish the conversation because he felt that it was his job to keep the situation under control and not to make it worse.

In his opinion, Diana had repeatedly said things that he thought were hair-raising. Among other things, she allegedly asked him if he knew anything about a conspiracy that she should be killed. "It sounded totally crazy to me," explains Hastings. Diana is said to have believed in such things, which in turn caused regret for Charles' ex-wife. Lady Di died in 1997 in a car accident in Paris, around which numerous myths and theories have grown up to this day.
