On at home or abroad: Prince Charles has had to travel a lot in his life. As Royal author Tina Brown reveals in her latest book, the British heir to the throne has become accustomed to a luxury that he no longer wants to do without – no matter how bizarre it may seem.

Prince Charles, 73, and Duchess Camilla, 74, will embark on their next major overseas voyage in May 2022, flying to Canada to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The Royal author Tina Brown revealed in the book “The Palace Papers: Inside The House Of Windsor – The Truth And The Turmoil” which extraordinary utensils the British heir to the throne will transport in his suitcase. So much can already be revealed: The Royal travels with bulky, oversized luggage.

Prince Charles: He arrives with his own toilet seat

Brown emphasizes that the 73-year-old takes his own toilet seat with him on every trip. Even on trips within Britain, Charles insists. Stays with good friends are no exception to this: the royal apparently prefers to be enthroned in his own seat. The bathroom is fitted out by the prince’s staff when he travels. In addition to the toilet seat, Queen Elizabeth’s son, 96, demands extra-soft toilet paper.

Do you already find that bizarre? In fact, the 73-year-old cultivates other habits that are sure to make one or the other host’s jaw drop. Prince Charles insists on sleeping in an orthopedic bed. What may seem plausible at the age of over 70 is, however, taken to extremes by the heir to the throne. The royal actually has his own bed delivered so he can get a good night’s sleep. “When he was staying with friends in the country, a truck would arrive the day before with his bed, his furniture and even his pictures,” says the Royal author.

Prince Charles insists on landscape paintings in his residence

Yes, you read that right: Prince Charles has his own paintings transported and decorated the guest rooms with them. If there are already some pictures hanging on the walls, they will be removed for the duration of your stay.

In addition to these travel paraphernalia, Prince Charles has another habit he doesn’t want to do without. Duchess Camilla’s husband chooses his menu before leaving. However, there is no royal affectation behind this, but simple caution: The Queen’s successor cannot afford to miss out on important events during his travels. Food that poses a high risk of food poisoning or salmonella is strictly taboo for all royals.
