Prince Charles allegedly wants to give the public more access to the royal residences, as the “Sunday Times” writes.
Prince Charles, 72, reportedly plans to give people more access to the royal palaces when he becomes king. As reported by the British media, citing the “Sunday Times”, he should consider converting Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, Windsor Castle, Sandringham and Balmoral from “private places to public places”.
According to the newspaper, the heir to the throne wants the royal residences to be open to visitors for extended periods. Accordingly, Charles plans to open Buckingham Palace and gardens all year round when he is king, even if he is there. The 72-year-old is said to have discussed his plans with his wife, Duchess Camilla (73), as well as his son Prince William (38) and his wife Duchess Kate (39).
“Monarchy must develop further”
Charles wants to connect the people with the monarchy, a source is quoted in the “Times” report. “He realizes that it needs to evolve, and in this day and age people want access to the palaces.” Charles understands that and sees the residences more as public places.
