Prince Charles has to take on more and more responsibility due to the Queen’s health problems. It is a foretaste of the future term of office of the heir to the throne – and it is already becoming apparent who Charles can build on during his reign.
A streamlining of the monarchy, a new order of senior royals and a focus on social issues such as climate change: Prince Charles, 73, has leaked some of his restructuring as heir to the throne of Great Britain in recent years. But in recent months, the idea of a king has become increasingly real. Queen Elizabeth, 96,’s health problems helped shape Charles’s image as a monarch. Prince Charles will seek help from his brother
As the royal expert explains, Queen Elizabeth has already taken some precautions to help shape Prince Charles’ entry into office and subsequent reign. The 96-year-old has brought in high-ranking family members. They must be prepared to take on more responsibilities alongside Charles in the coming decades. Two of those royals are Prince Edward, 58, and his wife, Countess Sophie of Wessex, 57.

“I have the impression that the Wessex’ are increasingly being drawn into the Queen’s orbit,” Owens told “Express”. But why Edward and Sophie? There are mutliple reasons for this. As the royal expert emphasizes, the monarch sees in the couple “[…] someone who can help Charles and someone who can keep the work of the monarchy going.” But there are far more reasons.
Prince Charles has to do without some members of the royal family
For one thing, it’s a simple process of elimination. Because of Prince Charles’ siblings, only Edward and Princess Anne, 71, are eligible. Prince Andrew, 62, is said to no longer have a place in the public life of the royal family due to his abuse scandal – especially not under Charles’ leadership. The heir to the throne also has to do without Prince Harry, 37, because he has decided to live outside the monarchy.
Secondly, it is no great surprise that Queen Elizabeth places her hope and trust in Sophie of Wessex. Her son’s wife is said to be one of her closest confidants and to have a much more intimate relationship with the Queen than Duchess Camilla, 74, or Duchess Catherine, 40. The monarch would prefer to spend Sunday church visits with Sophie, as she describes her charisma and presence as ” calming”. Especially after the death of Prince Philip, † 99, Sophie stood by her mother-in-law.
