Since his father was made king, Prince Christian has officially been Crown Prince of Denmark. But despite his new title, the heir to the throne apparently lives a completely normal life at his school.

Since his father was proclaimed king a few days ago, Prince Christian, 18, started a new life – at least in theory. But in practice it looks different: Although the eldest son of King Frederik, 55, and Queen Mary, 51, is now officially Crown Prince of Denmark, the everyday life of the heir to the throne has not yet fundamentally changed.

Prince Christian has a completely normal everyday life

The 18-year-old continues to go to school – and like the other children, has a completely normal routine there. At the Ordrup High School in Gentofte, north of Copenhagen, to which he moved in the summer of 2022, Prince Christian is currently attending the third grade of the upper school. In the local newspaper “Villabyerne” the crown prince’s life after the change of throne was examined. According to an article quoted by the Billed Bladet: “Crown Prince Christian is in the third year of high school and eats at Joe & The Juice [eine dänische Kette von Saftbars und Cafés; Anm. d. Red.] for lunch.” Although his father is now King of Denmark, Christian continues to lead the life of an ordinary student, they say. He prefers to spend his lunch break undisturbed with his classmates. Either the students go to Joe & The Juice , which is just around the corner to grab a turkey sandwich or stop by the small nearby eatery Nemo’s Kebab for a snack.

More royal duties after finishing school?

The newspaper “Villabyerne” spoke to royal family expert Lars Hovbakke Sørensen. He believes that Prince Christian will be able to take on more royal tasks after the change of throne than was originally planned. However, he will probably only carry out his obligations on behalf of the Crown once he has finished school.

After Queen Margrethe, 83, announced her abdication in her New Year’s speech, her son Frederik was declared king in a ceremonial act on January 14, 2024. Since then, Christian, who came of age last October, has been crown prince. Just a few days ago, King Frederik gave an interesting hint about the future role of his eldest son in his new book. Until then, Prince Christian still has time to enjoy the carefree everyday life with his classmates.
